The trouble is, is that disarming the populace is their goal, not safety. A disarmed populace can be forced into servitude to the state so the state can control every aspect of life. ( Except, of course, those in control will have freedom to do as they will. )
Their progress is slow but it continues mostly unabated. Soon, however, the limit to what We the People can and will tolerate will be reached and such government will be thrown off and new guards will be appointed to protect our freedom and security. I am 72 years old and I think I will see the end of tolerance in my lifetime. YTMV.
