My subscription to ZoneAlarm is set to expirre and I am not going to renew it.

So I've researched all the virus/firewall options and so far I'm leaning towards Bitdefender or Avast.

Prior to making a decision I'd like to hear from those who have actually used either. What are your opinions and would you recommend either and why?

I am open to other suggestions.

I'm a computer guy. I've used Avast free for several years for virus scanning. Its good. I have no experience with their firewall offering. Im using Zonealarm free for that.

+1 for Avast. I haven't had a virus in over 5+ years using it and frequently visit dens of filth, like here, all the time. ;)

I've been using (free) Microsoft Security Essentials for almost a year - couldn't be happier with it! Has intercepted a few Trojan viruses; updates/scans on its own; no noticeable loss of performance (unlike Norton). Was very pleased to boot Norton off all my machines; not to mention the savings.

I use AVG free, it's a little more light weight than Avast, and it was really annoying to me that Avast requires yearly license renewals even for the free version. Wtf? Who does that?

I used AVG free, and Microsoft Security Essentials free.

Neither one could keep my computer virus free.

I now browse the web with a Linux based OS. Problem solved!
