I'm a PM for a large IT vendor. I have a passion for building teams, building leaders, taking on challenges, and seeing my team's successful completion of projects. The only problem is right now 90% of my work is done from my home office and I really miss the face to face interaction with my teams and customers.

I've been thinking about transitioning as a PM into another industry. (possibly energy, or construction). I enjoy being outside, going to different sites, and working with teams (one of the things I miss about being a IT tech)

Are there any PMs here who have made the transition to another industry?

There are many many jobs for PM's out there. This is my wifes passion. She is currently working in change management because most the good PM jobs are out of state. If you dont mind relocating, check out Dallas and Houston. That is where the majority of energy and oil PM jobs are located. If you have your certification, PMI, etc it will give you a leg up.

I'm a PMP so that will help. Most of the work I do now is scattered across North America, I just manage it remotely. Maybe in a couple of years when relocation is an option I may have to look at out of state jobs.

You should consider security integration PM work.

It is a nice blend between your IT experience, but involves construction coordination work.

Most security integration companies are horrible at managing projects and good PMs are hard to find.
