My stepson received this a little bit ago. Why the hell should the Military even be involved with this? :screwy::madbox:

EXECUTIVE ORDER - - - - - - - ORDERING THE SELECTED RESERVE AND CERTAIN INDIVIDUAL READY RESERVE MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES TO ACTIVE DUTY By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including sections 121 and 12304 of title 10, United States Code, I hereby determine that it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation United Assistance, which is providing support to civilian-led humanitarian assistance and consequence management support related to the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa. In furtherance of this operation, under the stated authority, I hereby authorize the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, under their respective jurisdictions, to order to active duty any units, and any individual members not assigned to a unit organized to serve as a unit of the Selected Reserve, or any member in the Individual Ready Reserve mobilization category and designated as essential under regulations prescribed by the Secretary concerned, and to terminate the service of those units and members ordered to active duty. This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person. Years ago I got something similar. If ya don't wanna go, don't go, just be prepared for any consequences. I wouldn't go.

I think I would honestly have to consider the same if I was being sent to an area that gives you a pretty good chance at catching a disease that will have a good chance of killing you. On top of that since duty would not be combat related benefits would likely be withheld as well.

Either way anyone who does go has my best wishes to stay safe and healthy.

Just doesn't make sense to me. They can't treat the people there now. So why send more people they won't be able to treat? Especially some of our finest young men & women?

Did they say he was going there? From what I read they were sending teams that were already specifically trained for similar situations to help build the facilities necessary to help contain the outbreak and medical specialists with experience in infectious disease control. I would guess that activating reserves would be for the purpose of filling the active strength levels at home during this "operation". That's just my guess from what I've read, who knows what they will actually do.

Chances are, my wife has this very order sitting at the post office as a certified letter. She's a reservist in the U.S. Navy.

Not sure what the details are, but we are very nervous.

Aviator has a point there. My brother is a capt in AR. He's medical and may get a letter too. He went active a couple years ago to fill in at Walter Reed.
