I spent a couple years up in Duluth Minn. back in the days.
First time we drove out on lake superior was a little wierd.

damn i didn't know the ice ever got thick enough down here for that. back in my hometown in northeast Michigan, the ice would get a few feet thick and we'd have annual demolition derbies (on lake Huron), polar bear swimmers, and there were always a couple semi trucks on the ice for some reason too...
