Have you considered rebarreling your RPR to 6mm Creedmoor , 243 or 6.5 Creedmoor ? it may be cheaper for you than trading or buying a new rifle . Or you can not worry about saving money and get a really high quality tube.

You know I shot at a steel target 12x18" at 500 yards with my 30-06 years ago with 170gr lee cast lead
bullets I had to put my scope on 4 power as it was a mil dot 4-16 x40 and I still had to hold over.
Once i figured the drop which took about 7 rounds I then hit it and hit it 3 times in a row then a miss.
and then a hit.
1400fps cast load.
But wind was 5 mph and less.
My .308 load never missed that target.
I say take it out and try again.
What is the velocity of that 175.
Have you shot groups at 200 and 300 with it or just 100 and then tried for steel?

I have grouped at 200. It’s a shooter.
I believe I’m between 2550 and 2575fps. I don’t have a chrono to confirm though.
I’m giving the .308 another go. I’ll keep the WTB up though just in case someone gets a wild hair.
I shot a class at Fouled Bore with a 308 using 175gn Fed GMM ammo and had multiple impacts at 1350.
Is 6mm or 6.5mm creedmoor easier to have impacts at long range? Sure. Their ability to shoot higher BC bullets makes a big difference when it comes to wind (which will always be an issue here in Oklahoma) and less recoil than 308 definitely make them better target options. Still, I could usually see my misses and correct on the follow up shot with the 308.
You need accurate muzzle velocity of your load to build a proper ballistic chart, and to true your dope at distance.
What brake/muzzle device are you using? That also makes a huge difference.
Guns are tools. If you like the RPR platform but really want to switch calibers, have a new barrel installed and keep using your chassis and trigger. If you're going to switch to a different platform, well, figure out your budget first before you pick which route to take

When I was much younger used to kill prairie dogs at 250 yards with my Winchester model 88 with a Weaver 4 power scope. About every shot. Setting behind a log with rifle resting on the log in the shade.
I'd like to have an R25 in 243
I got to shoot a Ruger Precision in 6.5 and it is a flat shooter, but it needs a long barrel compared to 308. There was a great deal a few months ago on a Ruger American Predator with a scope in 6.5cm, maybe the guy still has it?
I wouldn’t give up on the 308 just yet. You’ve got 300 rounds on it, haven’t collected MV data on given loads or down range ballistic. Basically you really haven’t started your journey into shooting this discipline. If you’re interested in shooting KD matches out to 1000 yards, the 308 will struggle the further out you go depending on elevation, and your wind reading will need to be more precise, but what you learn with the 308 will serve you with your next caliber of choice. Changing calibers doesn’t allow for shortcuts in this discipline. All the skill sets are equally required be it 308, 6.5cm, or 6cm

A couple of years ago this paid off when we both shot simultaneously at two different hogs 278 yards away. Neither one took a step after being hit.
