I seem to remember a few years back when the fine folks of some Colorado hippy community were voting about whether to continue to call their pets "pets", or whether to start using the proposed term "animal companions" instead. Seems like "AC" carried the day, IIRC. So maybe the dead elk was someone's AC....

Illegal discharge of a firearm. Shooting an Elk out of season (poaching) . Elk are good groceries, but don't kill them down town when the season's closed. This sounds like the sort of thing I would have done in 1984, back before I had good sense.
