Almost--they take the print from your left and right index fingers. I don't know what they do if you don't have one of them--or any fingers at all (I thought about the question but didn't feel like asking).

I had a friend who refused to get an SDA license because he disagreed with idea that he needed a piece of plastic from the gov't to exercise a right. I agree with him in principle, but I can't afford to make case law...

Yeah, I agree with the others that it is hard to get through life now without being printed. In my case, entry into the US Army. Then for a Secret clearance. When I applied for a Security Guard license. When I applied for an Oklahoma teaching certificate. And of course for my OK CCW. It has happened so many times, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm forgetting one! (Plus the finger thing getting my OK driver's license renewed.)

I agree that it is only a matter of time until they want everybody's DNA on file. I got out of the Army before that became routine. I don't _think_ I've ever had the cheek swab done but maybe I'm repressing the memory!

Reminds me of one of my Nanny State complaints. The way they go to schools and want to create "identity kits" for all the children. Complete with fingerprints. Get 'em while they are young! That will end up being DNA as well eventually. Doesn't change as you get older, after all. My children have avoided it so far but sooner or later they will hit one of the required life events.

Of course we already have universal human registration in this country -- everyone is required to get a birth certificate when they are born and a death certificate when they die. IMO gun registration kind of pales in comparison to that. See how far you make it in society without a birth certificate (waiting for the Obama wisecracks). The point being, people in this country already put up with a whole lot of infringement on their rights and privacy, and don't think a thing of it. It is pretty hard to break out of the paradigm under which you live, but that is what we have to help people do if we are going to have half a chance at turning back this tide of collectivism.

I asked about this years ago, and I was told that the fingerprint cards remain with the parents, and are not given to anyone else.
