Citizen saves officer by killing suspect in Osage Casino Parking lot: OSBI

BARTLESVILLE, OK (KOKH) — The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is currently investigating a deadly shooting in Bartlesville.

On Tuesday, the Osage Nation Police Department contacted OSBI to assist with the deadly shooting in the parking lot of the Osage Casino Hotel.

According to OSBI, around 5:00 am, an Osage Nation Police Officer responded to the casino for an adult male suspected of using a stolen credit card.

OSBI said when the officer approached the suspect, the individual tried to get away in his vehicle.

The responding officer tried to stop the suspect, but the suspect kept on driving, dragging the officer with him.

Investigators said a male citizen then intervened and shot the suspect, resulting in his death.

The officer who was being dragged is expected to recover.

No other injuries were reported.

According to investigators, the deceased suspect was transported to the Office of the Chief Oklahoma Medical Examiner for further evaluation.

Could get interesting. Just because you have a permit to carry in Oklahoma doesn’t mean it’s legal on tribal nation land.

There would have been a time where I would’ve stepped in and possibly done the same thing. Now, probably not. I’d call 9-1-1 and report what was happening, but too many variables at play unless I was 100% sure that the officer was in the right and that lethal force is justified.

This. It's terrible that I feel that way but I just don't know about anything on tribal land any longer. No good deed goes unpunished. 🤷

I just don’t see how the tribe could pursue any legal action against the citizen when he saved one of their officers. It would be a huge slap in the face I think
But the article does not say whether that "citizen" was a tribal member or a non-Native American on tribal land (at the casino). Could go in any number of directions.

This is really pathetic that all these possibilities could play a role in this situation. Almost like the tribal land and its sovereignty is nonsense.
