I ended up with a Baraska 3 X 9 variable scope with a one piece mount in a trade; unfortunately it did not come with the adjustment caps -- seems the Barska website wanted $15 plus shipping for the caps -- I don’t believe the scope is worth much more than that.
I found an old Tasco scope, the caps actually fit but they are quite glossy.
