Same here….. local processor is booked 12+months out. Just got a 1/2 back in May. Besides being economical, you just can’t beat the taste. The grocery stores are selling some poor quality meat right now.

yup. this is just one feedlot. now there are always losses due to sickness injury cold heat etc but this was just a certain pen of cattle almost ready for the slaughter. someone probably a nutritionist messed up the ration or a hand didn't follow the directions and mixed the wrong products together or a delivery of products was unloaded into the wrong bin or tank. the cattle most likely had to much nitrogen fed to them and their blood urea nitrogen level rose to a lethal level. this makes it impossible for the steer to carry enough oxygen in their blood and they suffocate. the fact that so many died in such a short time and all in the same stage or pen feeding plan says it all. very expensive mistake.
the nations cow herd is going to slaughter for economic reasons. this means the momma cow herd is shrinking and there will be less cattle produced. also when this happens then mostly cows go to grinding and not cuts. so it is keeping hamburger prices down a bit.

Feed prices are through the roof, gas prices are higher then giraffe vagina, they let illegals in with no repercussion and now they are wasting even more money on a “trial” that wasn’t even true Americans that did it. Smart?
Yes there is inflation but it should be gradual, this rapidness is literally killing the “American Dream”, whatever the hell that is anymore.
I lost over $25k last year due to rising costs on fuel, feed, parts, fence supplies you name it prices are crap and you ain’t gonna get that hike for your cattle when you sell. The only thing not going up is the quality across the board of everything we buy, use and produce do to this bastard.

Who was watching over the cattle? Did they all die simultaneously? I don’t know. That’s a huge loss it seems. Who is taking the hit on that? You gotta follow the money first. There’s gotta be someone watching the cattle. I know nothing about cattle but if I see one go down, I’m going to think heat first. Get some water trucks in. Mist them. Put up temporary shade structures. I would also have access to vets and people that know cattle. Why is there no definitive information on the cause so far?
