Best Fall Foliage Routes

It's almost that time of year when the leaves change into brilliant yellows and oranges before they fall in the first heavy rain or wind.

What are some of your favorite drives to see the Fall colors?

For staying close to home I think the drive down Hwy 3W from Shawnee to Ada is very nice but southeastern OK has some great scenery too.

Talimena Drive

There's also beautiful county roads north of Tulsa, stretching across the hills of Osage and Rogers county. I hit those up most often.

Back in 2008, the wife, our youngest son, and I went from OKC towards Springdale, Arkansas, down to Mena, Arkansas, and then across the Talimena Drive. We did it in two days and the route was Turner Turnpike to Tulsa, east on Hwy 412 to Natural Falls State Park in OK, then to Springdale and south on Hwy 71 to Mena. Finished up the second day driving from around I-44 in Arkansas to Mena and then across the Talimena Drive. We had great timing for some of the pictures, but day two was somewhat overcast and hazy, so colors weren't so great.
