This has been tried many times in the past and never succeeded. When the BATF became part of the Justice Department it was speculated that the FBI would absorb them and take over their duties. As it turned out The FBI didn't want any of the BATF agents because they were mostly idiots and douche bags.

Truth. BATFE agents are considered rejects by most other federal agencies. They don't want them. Based on the number of times they step on their own cranks, I wouldn't disagree with that assessment. :(

BTW, did anyone else notice that the passage of NFA34 came pretty quickly on the heels of the ratification of the 21st Amendment, when we were about to have a bunch on unemployed revenuers? I wonder how that happened...

Good catch, Sooner! And it also is pertinent to note who was in the White House and who was in control of Congress at the time.

Another thought: Just disbanding the ATF is analogous to granting permission to carry a gun. Sure, it helps a little, but the underlying law that makes it necessary to have a permit to not be in violation of that underlying law is still there. The underlying law that spawned the BATFE is still there and now its 'powers' and 'duties' will still be there only now spread out over several agencies.

The underlying law must be repealed or nullified to restore that lost freedom that our Right to Keep and Bear Arms affords us, and the Second Amendment protects.
