Blanchard Public Schools says a student at Blanchard Elementary School accessed a Student Resource Officer’s gun and fired it into the ground while it remained in the officer’s holster, while on the playground Friday.

In a post on Facebook, the school said no one was hurt.

McClain County Sheriff's Office says the resource officer was sitting on a bench passing out stickers when the incident happened.

MCSO says it's looking into the type of service weapon and holster the deputy had.

Since there were no injuries MCSO will handle the entire investigation.

That’s a confounding story. Wouldn’t SRO’s holsters be something like level III Safariland security rigs? If the service pistol is completely inserted in the holster, the trigger is totally blocked. The story reads like an elementary school kid defeated all the holster security lock features, partaily drew the pistol out just far enough to get a skinny finger on the trigger and pulled it. Open carry pistol afficianados might think about ways to prevent this kind of episode. Regrettable.

I wonder if the pistol had a light mounted on it??
Then the holster might have enough of a gap for a little finger to get to the trigger??
