Very interesting. I got a Mossberg Maverick Pump Action in 12 Ga from Academy for something like $199 about a year or so ago that functions and shoots just fine. It's not gonna win any contests, or bring home any game, but I feel confident it will put a stop to about anything trying to force it's way in a door or window in my home.

I bought a Mossberg Maverick 12 gauge for under $170 about 10 years ago and it has shot countless clay pigeons, doves, quail, and pheasants along with a few big turkeys. I've had Remington 870s my whole life but there are a few things on the Maverick I like even better than Remingtons and I would say it is one of the greatest values in the shotgun world.

Just a follow-up to this thread. When we got our first round of Covid stimulus checks, I went to Atwood’s and bought the RIA 410 to add to the collection. The specs on this one are almost identical to the 12-gauge. The lack of recoil makes this one a lot more fun to shoot. Here’s the pic from the Armscor page.
