Actual test these days is ten questions, asked verbally, of which you have to get six correct. Similar to those asked in the survey, but also with local questions thrown in like name your US Rep or Senator, etc. Then writing a couple of sentences in English, that kinda stuff.
Has it changed in the last 20 years Gun Dog? I remember my 8th grade civics teacher telling us how hard it was to immigrate from Canada. Maybe not so much the test, but the process being quite a challenge?
well for me it was easy i married an American
, still had to jump through all the hoops. If you had the right skills etc you could immagrate from the Great White North, just had to find a sponser in your field, few people I went to school with went to work in Washington State. The test etc was a breeze but English is my first language & the INS officer was happy to deal with me.

My soon-to-be sister-in-law will be emigrating here (and becoming a citizen) from Canada.
She and my brother have been working on this for months and have spent thousands on the process.
I've joked that she should have taken a vacation in Mexico instead then just walked across the border..
It is a major PITA. We just finished the process in June.
