Carrying two sidearms

I have an old S&W 38 in the side pocket of my nice car just in case I need something simple and fast for any reason. Also, I often have other old guys riding with me to various events who don't carry, so they could have a piece if a hairy deal came about. In my regular old car, I keep a 2nd Sig 365 which is the same as my carry piece with a couple extra mags. I also go to both metro and remote areas and take photos of houses for lenders for the purpose of doing a mini appraisal, which is usually a foreclosure deal. I rarely have issues but have been chased and screamed at for doing that a number of times. Nothing more touchy than someone who is about to lose something cause they didn't keep the payment up. I go mostly in the OKC and all surrounding counties. There are rough remote areas even in parts of OKC.

I have personally never carried two. I just carry one that's very dependable. the 238 is a good backup. I would carry it as a pocket gun. I carry a sig 229, most of the time

For CCW, my wife and I use .40 cal S&W M&P Compact. That's the only pistol caliber my wife and I use. Since everybody and their brother carries a back pack these days, our second weapon is a .40 cal Kel-Tec Sub 2000 Gen 2 which uses the same magazine as our handguns. It's fits perfectly in the standard back pack, but is heavy as hell with 10 full mags in there. Never left in the car.

Should I carry a second gun in remote places? If so, what should it be? I carry a 380 now.

I spend a good deal of time in rural areas of oklahoma. Like remote-remote places and I'm often going it alone. For a city kid, this is as remote as it gets. Generally more than an hour from the closest emergency services and regularly outside cell services.

Since I'm not a large guy and I often have expensive gear with me, I always carry a p238 with a round in the chamber. I've had to fire it at packs of dogs 3 times and thankfully, my shots have never hurt the dogs but driven them away, which is the idea when theres a distance. I love dogs and simply want to be un-bitten.

so why would I want to carry anything else? Recently, several friends, family members, and a few talkative strangers have recommended carrying a second pistol for what they deemed more dangerous parts of the state. One friend told me he would keep a shotgun in the car for SHTF moments if he were me, And enough strange encounters like strangers following me for miles and miles and friends have suggested this that I'm considering it.

So, do you think I should carry a second arm? What would it be? I've considered a second 380, since I already have that ammo, but more stopping power might be nice. 9 mm? .40? 5.56 pistol? Semi-auto Shotgun?

If you have one you're trying to sell and a compelling case on adding this to my rural car

Just carry a Glock 19 or equivalent (M&P, Sig 320/365, etc.)

I just carry a pistol. Keep a rifle handy here of late, also a sharp knife and pliers.

I quess im a nobody and have no brother since i dont carry a backpack even thou i do have several just dont carry them, i do keep one in the truck just incase i should need it for some reason or other.

I carry a long gun of choice in the truck most of the time from a 16”,11.5” AR15 or a shotgun. Thats for if a very specific event arises. Aside from that, I will carry my go to carry gun (full size glock) and maintain another full size handgun in the truck where I can grab it anytime Im in the drivers seat. Outside of those 3 levels, a fixed blade is another level to have on yourself.

Now if Im going to some place that is THAT dangerous, Im evaluating do I really need to be there? And if yes, I dont carry a second gun on my person, spare mag in carrier on belt and one mag in my pocket which is for running away because I just got into the most wild fight ever and I burned through 32 rounds of 9mm, my vehicle will be clean AKA if someone breaks into it, all theyre getting is some bungi cord and my 23 year old radio at best, Im anti small guns as primaries, scramble for that vs a midsize or full size under stress and try to run the gun at speed on a moving target, dogs, lions, people, sasquatch, whatever, I want all the gun I can get within reason. And I dont know about warning shots, dogs that are threats are equivalent to ISIS or Hamas militants in that moment as far as im concerned. My livelihood and providing funds to provide for my family, protect my family, and contribute to society are much more important than saving a dog or even a thousand dogs. I avoid dogs as much as I can but after having multiple dogs charge me, 1 bite, Ive had a change of perspective!

Thats practical and shy of a terrorist attack, very effective for just about any problem.

I would carry some extra mags.

To OP: As mentioned 380 is my backup just in case caliber. My EDC is a Glock 30s 45acp or Glock 19 depending on the situation.

It's funny you mention BFE areas is your concern, mine are just the opposite. I live and work in western Ok. typically BFE and never have worried about much. Now if I travel to OKC then that's when I have my EDC, a backup handgun, a AR in my vehicle, and. a breakdown PCC carbine in my carrybag to take in at night. I guess it all depends on what you perceive as a high risk area.

As once told to me by a firearms instructor many moons ago. "A handgun is used to defend yourself while you get to a rifle or shotgun"

Many motels in OKC are high risk areas.
