She did have breast cancer. They did a news thing on it when she still worked there. I like her. Wish she was still on the news.
She got her start here in Ada back when KTEN was located here. She later moved to the OKC news market, KFOR was her gig before leaving to be the spokesperson for the ME office. She is a cancer survivor.
i think the plan was to use Cherokee's reputation and communications skills to repair the reputation of the M/E's office after all the scandal.
Unfortunately that only works if the place is really run ethically and efficiently the way it's supposed to.

i'm glad she's coming through this looking like she is standing up for the right thing even though she gave up a good paying job.
