Some, like Chicago and Baltimore, stand out are clear examples. NYC being below the TX cities, and even the TN city (memphis) dispels our example.

I certainly support our and everyone's right to carry and be armed and own firearms. But I think other socioeconomic factors have a much larger influence on the aggregate crime figures than firearms laws.

But if you look at an individual scenario and one's chance of being victim of that crime scenario... say look at me specifically, for example.... I have a much higher risk of being a victim of a successful attempt in CA where I am unarmed (cannot carry when I travel to LA), versus when I am in and around OK (and armed all the time). I am not talking the chance that I am attacked, but rather the chance the attack is successful. I much like to believe I am better off armed.

The low rates in NYC are interesting. I believe NYC is the only city that stops and frisks people without probable cause.

Additionally I've read that their other serious crime stats are suspect, because they police actively discourage victims from making crime reports.

I guess it's considered safe there because of the crime per 1000 is low.

Well, to be fair, that is how statistics work.

Especially when you look at the state on the whole, and consider that places like Oakland and south and east LA or San Ysidro drive the average up. If you're in Chico or Arcata or Susanville or Bishop, there'd be little to worry about crime-related.
