Why is this allowed? Because China will no longer accept our worthless fiat currency known as the FRN (Federal Reserve Note) dollar. Because our government is selling us out. The Republican view of property rights is that you effectively rent your land from the government (property tax) and you buy or sell the rights to that lease.

The Democrat view of property rights is very much the same, except that they tend to support more takings of property "for the greater good" as determined by the all-knowing government.
