The Republican view of property rights is that you effectively rent your land from the government (property tax) and you buy or sell the rights to that lease.

The Democrat view of property rights is very much the same, except that they tend to support more takings of property "for the greater good" as determined by the all-knowing government.

In case someone is wondering about my remark about the Canadians, see Encana, especially in the Barnett shale play.

Is this any different than the US buying energy rights in Canada and other foreign companies?
For the record, I'm thinking aubry is selling this to save his company. They just about bellied up a couple of years ago, forcing him to sell his personal stock to keep afloat.
I'm pretty sure this is an effort to get his company back in the game.

:werd:

They are only buying leasehold interest to the oil and gas and partnering up with the operators. They aren't buying the actual land.

Y'all chill out. Do you really think that Texas of all states would stand for this? Think people, think!

Edit to add:
This is the disturbing part of the deal. From the article:

The deal represents China’s second try at making a big move into the U.S. oil and gas market, following a failed bid five years ago to buy California-based Unocal Corp.
Intense political opposition over energy security concerns derailed that $18.4 billion deal. But analysts expect few political or regulatory hurdles to the CNOOC-Chesapeake deal.

What's disturbing is the utter lack of political opposition to the whole concept. Instead we have an administration that is more than willing to hand over whatever and the drilling technology that they will undoubtedly gain knowledge of. There goes the U.S. as being a leader in another technological field. We can thank Bill Clinton for letting them have access to satellite guidance software that they've reverse engineered to guide their ICBMs. Democrats are retarded....

The U.S. owes China so much money, China now has political and economical influence over our laws and policy. It's not by chance, it is intentional by our leaders. They (the shadows of power) know this, but, they are driven by greed.

Obama and Clinton granted eminent domain to the Chinese in case the US defaults in debt to the Chinese.

FEDS GRANT EMINENT DOMAIN AS COLLATERAL TO CHINA FOR U.S. DEBTS!
Beijing, China -- Sources at the United States Embassy in Beijing China have just CONFIRMED to me that the United States of America has tendered to China a written agreement which grants to the People's Republic of China, an option to exercise Eminent Domain within the USA, as collateral for China's con More..tinued purchase of US Treasury Notes and existing US Currency reserves!

The written agreement was brought to Beijing by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and was formalized and agreed-to during her recent trip to China.

This means that in the event the US Government defaults on its financial obligations to China, the Communist Government of China would be permitted to physically take -- inside the USA -- land, buildings, factories, perhaps even entire cities - to satisfy the financial obligations of the US government.....

I find it hard to believe that it is for real. An internet hoax perhaps?

I guess you have not heard anything about recently appointed Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor's admission that International Law should usurp U.S. laws and Constitution. Nor have your read anything about the NAFTA super highway.

Spend some time and read the U.N. Agenda 21.

Why is this allowed? Because China will no longer accept our worthless fiat currency known as the FRN (Federal Reserve Note) dollar. Because our government is selling us out. Because the uneducated, uninformed, entitlement attitude voter will vote to benefit self over country. Do you really think it can be stopped?

Well said. Do y'all suppose there is any difference which party betrays the Republic? Does anyone remember that the PRC controls both ends of the Panama Canal?

Who was president 5 years ago when there was too much political opposition to the Unocal deal? I'll answer for you. Bush. There's your difference right there. He had a clue quite unlike our current leader and he wasn't out to destroy our country like this asshat...
