Chopping off Shotgun barrels

What I was told by a dealer is that they have an 18" dowel that they drop down the bore. That's why he always cut the barrel off at 18-1/4 inches.
Yep, my smith cut the barrel of my Rem 100 at 18 1/8" after my son stuck the barrel in the mud and made it into a banana peel. Re crowned it as well.
I've seen people say a hack saw job is good enough for a shotgun, but the smith was a nationally ranked shotgun shooter in trap so I went with his opinion.
Open cylinder makes for a hell of a covey gun when the quail flush.

My Dad did a bunch of barrels with a hacksaw. But used a face reamer to square it up. Then re-threaded for screw in chokes. Had to Mic the barrel to see which choke tube would work as a lot of the barrels were not bored on center. He had thin wall choke tubes for those that were really close to tolerances.
