Hey All,

A few weeks ago I bought a sweet Colt MKIV Series 70-1911. From the serial numbers made in 1976 and in excellent shape.

I take it apart to inspect and clean it and I find that it has the "Series 70"-finger/collet barrel bushing.

I know many a conversation has taken place on the pro's and con's of this style of barrel bushing.

****What I need to know*****

Is there a solid barrel bushing that I can "drop in" in place of the finger/collet bushing?

One that I don't have to measure the end of the barrel, one that replaces the original bushing without any modification, measurements, or anything else???

If there is a drop in replacement....blued......what brand or who sells it??

***I don't want to get into the conversation or argument on collet barrel bushings***

I just don't want to shoot this fine pistol and one of those fingers breaks off and I have a very jammed up gun...yes, I know that may never happen...but I want a solid bushing...if possible.

I just want to know if there is an easy fix or replacement to this question?

How do I know an easy fix will work or if the seller of the solid part knows what they're talking about??!!

The one on the left is what I want....the one on the right is what came from the factory.

The collet bushing was an idea on how to make the 1911 more accurate with not much hand fitting done to the bushing. It worked but as you know it is prone to failures. You can install a standard bushing but it would need to be hand fitted if you want the pistol to retain any decent accuracy. But, there is a way to get what you want. Midwest Gun Works www.midwestgunworks.com will make a bushing that will fit without hand fitting it to the pistol. You'll need accurate measurements of the outside of the barrel where the full bushing covers the barrel and measure the inside of the frame where the bushing installs. The best way to pull this off is to call MGW and discuss with then what you're wanting to do. The other way is to have a local gunsmith install a new bushing. Good luck.
