Anyone ever seen a way to use an existing barrell type tripod feeder to convert it to a protein type self feeder? Seems that on mine (audio-link, field-pro of Edmond) (200# or 300#) there is a threaded drop under the barrell coming out of the funnell above the motor/thrower.

Was wanting some way to remove the thrower and mount 2 or 3 arms that angle down with a "stopper" like on many of the expensive protein feeders. Is there after-market arms available? Anyone ever made a conversion?

I've always had a thought of using some all thread, and suspending a disk blade under the drum, with a pvc dropper that would dump the feed, and stop when it dumped enough.
I just came by a couple of open top shipping drums, so I might try it. the allthread would allow for adjustment.

I have seen one once that used pvc. It was a threaded piece up through the barrel and probably had some kind of flange screwed on inside. (couldn't see the inside) it dropped down to a Y then had a 45*.

I bought a gravity tube from academy last year and attached it to an old poly barrel feeder that had a broken motor. feed tube works but the deer went straight to the corn from the broadcast feeder and wouldn't touch the protein pellets in the gravity feeder. i am hoping for better results this year.

I saw these at the outdoor show at the fairgrounds last week they look pretty good and they will sell just the funnel portion with or without the pole. I might try one this year.

Here is a pretty good one that is close to what I am looking for. Uses a toilet flange and a 2-way cleanout. $25 tops.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv5SmLHh3mY

A toilet flange is one that I was looking at. I've seen the multiple feeds from the barrel. Always though the disk thing using the flange and pvc might be the way to go? JMHO.

A way to keep the coons from climbing up would be the nest best thing. Person would have to make legs like a spider wth a 90 degree rise. Not hard to do. Infra red sensors with fur recognition technology, and a remote shotgun? LOL. :D

Forget I said that.

Coon remedy is to cut 32" of pvc big enough to go over your feeder legs loosely. Use a heavy wire or light cable to hold them about half way up the legs. (they slide over the feeder legs). When a coon gets to pvc it spins around freely and they usually can't hang on.

Mix corn 50/50 at first til they get used to it. Then gradually back corn down until it is all pellets.
