My FIL bought a model 52. It is a cool looking old gun, but he does not know much about it. I don't know much about it either.
Does anyone have one of these? How do they shoot? Is there anything he needs to know?
He has not shot it yet, but I looked at it today and everything looks good.
I would like to get him some ammo for Christmas, but not sure where to get 7.62X45.

Not sure about the engraving. He thought it might be trench art, but I know these were made after WW2.

They are generally accepted as fine rifles by the milsurp community. Allot were converted to 7.62x39 and i know one guy who was converting AK mags to be accepted in them. Thats pretty much all i can tell you. Nice rifle by the way!

I guess he went to a pawn shop and the guy was trying to sell it. He said the shop would not give him what he wanted. When the guy walked outside, he asked the FIL if he would give him $200 for it. He said he bought it because it looked cool, but he had no ideal of what it is worth.

I know where there are about 5 or 6 boxes of ammo for it. it's not that bad to reload for once you get the dies. If you want I can stop by the guys house and check on the ammo. Not sure how far away you are but I can stick it in a 5 dollar flat rate box.

Looks like it spent some time in the middle east going off the arabic on the stock. $200 was a great deal even if it is in 7.62x45. You may have to find some ammo on gunbroker.

Good rifle and mine shoots great. All the ammo is corrosive surplus mostly in steel cases. You can find it on some auction sites or sometime from a Guy named Mark Kubes in Florida. RCBS makes brass forming dies for a little over $100. There is a 52/57 that has been converted to 762x39 but they are harder to find and more expensive. You got a good deal at $200. They make a chamber insert for conversion but I've never seen one that worked. Once the chamber heated up the insert would eject with the spent brass every time.
