I know guys who have killed deer while “still hunting” (ie walking around), but I also know that even a blind hog finds an acorn every once in a while.

There is an old story out there about stand hunters vs still hunters. (I never understood the meaning of still hunters as they are walking)
The stand hunters are back at camp butchering their deer while the still hunters are STILL hunting.

My cousin can make about an hour in the stand, and then I'd see his orange out walking around.
I don't hunt with him any more.

Last year I did a bit of "still hunting", although we call it "spot and stalk". One of the last few days of rifle, I had sat 3hrs in the tree stand and then went walking around for about 30mins, at around 10am I found a spot in a fairly thick area with a descent view down into a dry creek on one side. I sat down against a small tree just to rest and take in nature before heading out and was only there for about 15mins when I had a doe creep up about 12ft from me. I wasn't paying attention at first and there was no way I would have been able to get my rifle in position or even been able to pull off a left hand shot anyways. It was still cool to see how long before I got busted cause I wasn't moving an inch.

Need more wind! I’ve got a deer coming in consistently but want to see him on the hoof. I sit down and it’s way to calm. Keep getting hit in the back with a slight breeze so I change stands. I get hit from a totally different direction. Tried one more on my way out that was no good either. Ah well, left well before the deer moved. I’d rather waste a trip than educate what few deer I have. Always tomorrow...

There has been ALOT movement the last couple days...buck, does, turkeys, coyotes, and coons. So far, I’ve had two new bucks show up. One has a really nice 11 pt rack but is maybe 4, and the other has a dink rack but is the biggest bodied deer I’ve seen in at least a couple years. I figure he’s old.

Do you realize how many pictures I go through in a day?!?

I just checked this morning and have 234 pictures from overnight, and the morning activity will probably yield close to that many more. Needless to say, I don’t spend much time on each picture and don’t save many at all.

Here’s a couple.
