So I thought I would go and buy another pistol, ya know, getting ready for Christmas.

Everything was going just like normal, found the one I knew a kid would love, and went to filling out paperwork. The clerk asked for my DL or permit. I asked which was easier, and he said permit. Handed it over and finished filling out the form.

Hung around looking at ammo and scopes and what not....and he said something I hadn't heard before: you have been delayed.

My permit is less than a month old, I bought a pistol a month ago, and ordered another pistol from Palmetto State just a couple days ago.

My question is this....when my pistol arrives at the FFL, if I have not received a proceed on the other, can I legally submit paperwork for it? I know the FBI says 3 days and an automatic proceed is granted, but don't want this to become a habit.

Just wanted to make sure. Got denied once, two months after I was granted my Top Secret Clearance for the second time, but then there was a legit baffling reason. Bench warrant that was 16 years old. Got it cleared up and bought three guns the day after got the call from the DA in Arkansas that the warrant and charges were gone.

At least the system works a lot of time. (well...sorta )

As Hoov said, yes you can. But, I would expect a delay on the second firearm as well. If it doesn't get delayed, good for you; if it does, at least you were expecting it. Remember, too, that the three day period for an automatc proceed is three business days. And, it's not always three days. A guy in the store today got a delay until Sept. 29th., but he was expecting it, and so he left. NICS called back less than 30 minutes later with a "proceed".

I drove all the way to Purcell when the glock 43 came out because a guy I know had some in. I got there and bought it and did my nics check and got a delay. First time ever. Man was I pissed. Drove all the way from Shawnee and didn't even get to leave with it. While I was on my way back home I got a text from my gun guy and was told that he just got the proceed. It was less than 2 hours. But I was almost home. So I guess they must have went to lunch and didn't feel like doing my check at that time. Because it was around 12 when I did it. And it was after one when he was given the proceed. Idiots. Oh and by the way, I have nothing on my record.
