Democratic Party Platform: Reinstate assault weapons ban

I know that someone is going to jump up and say the dems don't have the votes to do it. Sooner or later(hopefully never) they will regain the votes they need and it will be done. You can take that to the bank---that is IF you have any money left and IF there is even a bank left, right?

Firearms. We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements-like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole-so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.

I hate the term "assault weapon". Technically speaking, it isn't an "assault weapon" unless it is used to assault someone. What about assault knives, assault baseball bats, assault hands/feet. Hell, if it can be used to harm someone, make it illegal.

Maybe someone should mention to them that trying to define something which you have no understanding of, ie in their case common sense, only results in making oneself look foolish. Unfortunately there will no doubt be fools enough out there to buy into this crap eventually.

No it doesn't - if you want to make a point fine, but don't lie or add unsupportable commentary. The platform does call for banning abortion in all cases since, the platform writers reasoned, the child resulting really isn't the one deserving of a death penalty. As to care after the child is born the platform is silent but one can reasonably presume that adoption is still an option.
