Platforms are for pleasing the radical elements of the party.

The Republican platform says that if your wife is gang raped and becomes pregnant, YOU are raising that child.

How excited are you for that plank?

Did a search of the GOP platform here:
http://www.gop.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/2012GOPPlatform.pdf

Found 1 mention of rape:
Liberals do not understand this simple axiom:
criminals behind bars cannot harm the general public. To that end, we support mandatory prison sentencing for gang crimes, violent or sexual offenses
against children, repeat drug dealers, rape, robbery
and murder. We support a national registry for convicted child murderers. We oppose parole for dangerous or repeat felons. Courts should have the
option of imposing the death penalty in capital
murder cases.

Nothing new. Same language as in 2004 and 2008.

Abortion is a non-issue. I wish morons would keep trying to make it one and get back to what is really important in this country.

No it doesn't - if you want to make a point fine, but don't lie or add unsupportable commentary. The platform does call for banning abortion in all cases since, the platform writers reasoned, the child resulting really isn't the one deserving of a death penalty. As to care after the child is born the platform is silent but one can reasonably presume that adoption is still an option.

Right...because we all know how the GOP loves social programs. He'll, throw the rape baby out in the world. He'll pull himself by his bootstraps by God!

There are no social programs mentioned in the Constitution, therefore the Republic is prohibited from establishing those programs. No, the "welfare" mentioned in the preamble does NOT mean a entitlement program. It is interesting to note that the "Progressives", forerunners of the current party symbolized by a donkey, are totally responsible for the current income tax program, as they nearly broke the FedGov by banning liquor. We know how that ban worked out. I see a gun ban going much the same way, but several orders-of-magnitude worse.

JB,

You display an unexpected blindness with your amazingly limited and rigid (or should I say doctrinaire?) thinking. Charities existed long before government agencies started assuming responsibility for them and, in fact, recently starting trying to monopolize all "charitable" activity by forcing out any provider who won't toe an increasingly radical line. However, many Republicans do favor social assistance at the local or state level versus everything seemingly being a Federal issue.

It is tough to see how any supporter of the Second Amendment could be comfortable with the gun control language in the Democratic Party platform

From a post above:
We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements—like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole—so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.
