Very timely.
I say yes you should begin casting.
I have been melting lead since I was 12 but then it was for making sinkers for fishing.
I made molds from wood.
Well drilled holes in the wood and poured lead into them and had a bent copper wire inserted into the holes to tie my line to.
I have often wondered if I could make a bullet mold the same way.
I think I can.
Absolutely, go for it!
It's a satisfying hobby to get into but understand that it is also another money pit.
Lead melter; either a dedicated unit or go with the cast iron and ladle on a turkey fryer. Then bullet molds (or is it moulds?). Bullet sizers, powder coat paint, a small oven, cookie sheets, more bullet molds. That ladle sucks, I need the nice Lyman ladle.
Then get tired of ladling bullets and buy the Lee 4-20 pot. This is great but that RCBS lead pot looks sexy.
Lee aluminum molds work great but then you find out how much better the steel molds from Lyman are.
Wait, there's a company that makes sweet molds from brass!
It may be a money pit but just think as long as you have lead you will have bullets to load while others are searching for them, and if you can get your lead free think of the saving your adding up.
