Sitting here in the backyard and just witnessed a rare dragonfly swarm. Probably 50-75 dragonflies are flying patterns over mine and the neighbor's back yards. I don't think I've ever seen that many together at one time

Miniature drones.
That would have been a sight to see.
Back in the day, we used to sit around the pond and shoot them with .22 birdshot as a form of redneck trap shooting.
Later found out that was a big mistake. Skeeters make up a big part of their diet. We were just making the mosquito problem worse.

The sun was already down and I couldn't see them on the camera screen. I should have probably gone ahead and took pics. A person might have been able to zoom in enough to make them out.
Did you just mow the yard. Seems the like a freshly stirred up yard
I didn't but one of the neighbors was mowing. The mosquitoes have been pretty bad the past few nights. Hope they are feasting on them.
Several years ago I saw a swarm come through in my backyard, probably several thousand. It was a site for sure.
The only way I know to draw in a dragonfly is to throw out a fishing line.
A few decades ago I was out dove hunting with a friend of mine and we noticed a big black cloud of some kind of winged creatures coming from the north.
It was so big we were amazed at it and sure wondered what it was. Turned out to be thousands of dragonflies. It took a few minutes for the swarm to pass over us. I've never seen anything like it since then.
