I'm sorry if this brings up bad memories of any family members. Thinking about these gun free zones like schools and government properties, reminded me of the Post Office shootings in Edmond. I was attending college at UCO (CSU) and remember all the police cars being there on my way home. These horrible mass shootings always seem to occur in gun free zones. This one occurred with no AR-15, just semi-auto pistols. Even if you limit the number of rounds in a magazine, you can simply carry spare magazines. The only solutions seems to be to outlaw semi-autos, and slow down the rate of fire till police arrive, or arm the citizenry to defend themselves and do away with these gun free zones. I would prefer the latter. That day in Edmond was a horrible, terrible day. Condolences to anyone on this board, who's lives were affected by that tragedy.

The man who did the shooting was our mailman and a family friend. We were talking with him just weeks before it happened. He seemed fine at that time, cheery and talkative. Who would have known.

I remember that day. I wasn't there but my brother lived just a few blocks away from the post office.

So did one of my sisters ...

One of GC's co-workers was his best friend. Small world, huh?

You just never know what demons someone carries.

I, too, prefer arming the citizenry but, alas, I don't think the citizenry has the stomach for being armed any longer. It's so much easier to abdicate that responsibility and sit around hand-wringing and playing the blame game. Good Lord, I sound like my widower neighbor fella but I worry about the world my children and my children's children have inheritied.

My wife's brother was postmaster at Lawton when it happened. He knew several of the victims. One of the younger girls turned down a job at a bank because she was afraid a bank might get robbed. She thought the post office would be safer.
