I would. Scoop can be consistent if you are consistent about how you use them, but even so, knowing how much powder you have by weight is important. I think Lee makes a low cost beam scale or there are many cheaper digitals these days too.

Well, I wound up buying the Pact scales from Midway USA for $128. It has some good and bad reviews, as did all the electronic scales I looked at. I have messed with it on several occasions and it seems to be pretty accurate and stable. I have a cheap Frankford Arsenal electronic scale I bought when I got my initial setup. It has been pretty accurate for a battery powered unit and I used it quite a bit for quik check of powder drops, etc. I generally use my RCBS 502 balance scales when I need accuracy. I am pretty fanatical about accuracy and watch things pretty close. Anyway, I have compared weights on the three scales to check the accuracy of the Pact scales and they seem to be holding the advertised tolerances. If you let the scales warm up and stabilize before calibrating, they seem to work fine.

I've found even standing over the scale breathing on it will sway your results.

Either the RCBS or the Hornady scales are accurate and reliable.

Which models are you referring to?

Been using the Dillon D-Terminator for a few years. Very happy with it.

I have had mine for over 10 years and it does fine.

Same question here. I've seen those at Bass Pro and stuff and wonder if they are worth the $35 or more like $.35

I have one (MTM/Caseguard) it was better than dealing with a beam (speed) for me but I don't trust it I figure it is probably within about 0.5 gr. I can put a load on it give it time to stabilize then just blow in the general direction and let is stabilize again and it will have a different number also it usually jumps by 0.2 gr increments (never have had it read 45.9 gr always 45.8 or 46.0). Oh also if you try and trickle it doesn't move up very well until there is a large difference in weight, gotta trickle then tap it and wait for it to settle down again. I have an RCBS Chargemaster now its awesome and no battery's to deal with. I've played the game $20 lee beam scale, $35 MTM electronic scale, $275 RCBS ChargeMaster electronic scale and powder dispenser. They also make the RangeMaster 750 or you can buy just the ChargeMaster 1500 scale and add the dispenser later.
