I have only had to tell one customer to f-off in 20+ years of service work and totally agree with Musk.

I wish it had only been one.

For the first 10 years of my professional career I didn’t fire any customers. Not ‘cause they didn’t need it, but because I was too gutless to do it. The last 28 years I fired a bunch of them. Every one of them had it coming, and me and my employer were better for them being gone. It takes a while to gain the confidence and the sac to pull the trigger. There were some in that first 10 years that deserved it, I was just too green to launch them. Thought we needed the revenue. I was young, and wrong. There were several that mistook my sunny disposition and amiable nature for weakness. It was always refreshing when it was over and done.

The customer isn’t always right. I’ve got an archived article that addresses this somewhere. I’ll try to find it.

Musk was absolutely right. History will be on his side.

How many times did Rush Limbaugh loose advertisers? Remember Snapple?

“But probably Quaker’s worst move was to dump Limbaugh and Stern. Done to avoid controversy, the terminations inflamed it instead. Stern took his revenge by subjecting Quaker to months of on-air diatribes that urged listeners to stay away from “Crapple.””
