M1 Garand from the CMP. German K98, complete with Nazi markings.
Can't beat either one for the "cool" factor. (not to mention the history)

K31 or Finn M39. Actually, anything Finn is more than likely going to shoot well. The Finn 28-76 is a pretty cool piece, but not an issue weapon, it was for competitions (built off old military rifle parts).

I'd say k31 as well for competition just starting out. Easy to find for a reasonable price and just about all are in great shape.

Plus Swiss surplus ammo is still relatively cheap and rivals handloads

Another vote for the K31, though the GP-11 surplus ammo is getting harder to find, and more expensive. Berdan primed, too.
