Former Lawton teacher pleads guilty to gun charge.

A former high school teacher in Lawton who brought a handgun to school in his briefcase has pleaded guilty to a felony charge.

Authorities say Trice, who has a concealed carry permit, forgot that the weapon was in his briefcase.

I realize the Law is the Law. Not sure where the mental health evaluation comes in to play?

I hate all laws where a normal citizen can be convicted of a felony for a victimless crime, without harm being done and without intent even being demonstrated. Any such law should be repealed immediately. There are so many on the books, almost everyone is a potential felon at this point without even knowing it, and most have nothing to do with guns.

Not to mention laws that are in direct conflict with the constitution.

Its all about the money in court costs, monitoring, various fees, etc that are charged now along with the fine for the actual crime.

That's certainly a part of it, but I think it's more about padding their resume than anything else.

Sounds like he got a deferred sentence. Don't mind the sentence if there are concerns for this guys mental health. The story reads like he may not have been charged without those concerns.

He got a deal that included a dismissal with a fine. He was probably scared poo-less. I know I would have been. Whether or not I agree with the law is another matter.

If I remember right there is over 100 gangs in the Lawton area, was an article stating that the town had the highest concentration of gangs in the state.

There is a good reason why to carry there and it doesn't surprise me at all that the school has it's own police force.
