A very good friend of mine recently won the drawing that Don Franson was having for a free rust blueing. Here are some comments made by my buddy about the man and the work performed.
Let me first say thank you to Don for putting on such a generous give away. Don Franson struck me as a very friendly person that is knowledgeable in his skill. He takes pride in work and it shows to say the least. The gun I chose was my fathers Charles Daly Auto Pointer. This gun was built off of the Browning A-5 patent. There isnt really anything special about the gun other than my dad and I did a lot of bird hunting together with it. The gun has sentimental value , but , needed some work to get it back to good condition.
I was so happy that I won the re finish give away that I wanted to show Don that I appreciated him for offering it. The fit and finish on the butt stock wasnt perfect. The stock had been replaced several yrs ago and didnt match the forearm very well. Not to mention the detent wasnt working on the forearm cap. I asked him to please handle the wood work on the furniture also and I would pay the bill when I picked it up.
About a week later Don called. He informed me that the gun was ready to be picked up. I made my way over to his shop to see my totally restored shotty. I was very pleased to see level of skill Don used on my dads old gun. The blueing was perfect. The finish matched the style of the gun to the T. I looked at the wood and what was once a two tone gun with a less than perfect fit was no more. The wood matched very very well. The fit was extremely close to what you would expect from a factory fit finish on a new firearm.
Don has the before, during , after pics of the gun . I am going to have him chime in and post the pics ASAP in this thread. I would not hesitate to reccomend Don to any one interested in finish work for their gun. Rather its just a gun or a gun that has value in dollars and cents or sentimental value. You can expect nothing but professional skilled work from Don. I was very happy to have the finished product that I received from Franson Firearms and you will be too.
Thanks again Don the gun looks great.
