I got a feeling that was staged. The opening sentence would be "Your car is electric, it doesn't run on gas." But he never actually said that, instead he showed connections and adapters, which strikes me as being intentionally vague.

And the boyfriend would surely have told her the car was electric and how to charge it when he gave it to her.

Also you never see two girls that pretty running around together. Pretty girls have plain friends because by comparison they look even prettier. Plain girls have pretty friends because the pretty friend draws more attention to them.
