This is total BS. No wonder a new truck costs so much. Why would the state get a stinking dime?

The state gets 75% of punitive damage awards. That's perfect, no possibility there for funny business.
Are the gov regulators on the hook too since these vehicles were thoroughly crash tested and cleared by a gov agency, right?

Well, just to present an alternative perspective... punitive damages are for the purpose of punishing the party found liable. Not for restoring the loss of the party that suffered a loss, that is what the judgment for damages is for. Is it a conflict of interest any more than if the city fines you for some code infraction and the city keeps all of the money?

GM would have Pedo Joe write a bailout check for double the amount. Cash the check, pay fine, give Pedo Joe a kickback and then give themselves a bonus for job well done, while paying goobermint back 10 cents on the dollar, interest free.
