I found i can load more powder in the .308 cases with this bullet than i can with the
165Gameking HPBT.
over 2gr more powder(that is as far as i went) and setting the jump to the lands the same.
Still below book max but need to shoot and test what i have loaded up.

They didn't work well in my 300wm, hope your 308 yields better results. I was getting 2-3 MOA groups at most yardages. It never really came together. Went back to 180 partitions.

I have a few different combos loaded up with different OAL and different headstamp brass and varget and 4064 powder.

If they do not do well with any of the loads i have made then i will have a few hundred bullets to sell. :)

I never could get lakecity brass to group worth a darn in my .308
R-P and federal sucked also.
Winchester was my go to brass. I now have that and Lapua that i mainly use

I did load some in Federal cases this time and some different LC match brass i just acquired for adding some R12 to a truck

I found a trend with these 168 A-Max bullets in my .308 savage.
The further away from the lands i seat them the bigger my groups get..
42.5gr varget and .005" off the lands (2.828OAL) gave me my best 208 yard 3 shot group today in this wind.
The 3 shot measured .462" Some more 42.5gr loads seated .010" further from the lands(2.818") shooting the same place opened it up a little to .750" group discounting the flier i pulled that is 2.1" away.
6 shots total

43gr to 45gr varget opened the groups, getting 1.3"-1.7" at 208 yards
3 shot groups

I tried 4064 but most were mid to upper loads same as the 1.3-1.7 varget loads.

At 100 yards the 43-45gr loads printed in the .8" area.
I only had 2 loads for a total of 6 rounds at the lower level of 42.5gr..so did not try them at 100 yards.

So these like to go around 2500fps instead of mid to upper 2600 in my gun.
I tried 2.809 and 2.818 and 2.828.. the last being best in my gun.

The last outing at 280 yards.. i found my gun likes Lapua brass. I tried Remington and Winchester and LC match and Federal cases with the same load as my Lapua brass
Lapua was the first brass to shoot,
Those are in the yellow circle.. the yellow circle to the right and above the other circle is the first shot of the day, cold clean barrel.
Must do something about that. The other 4 circled in yellow measure 1.015" center to center, this time was once fired FLS brass shoulder pushed back .001" shoots the same as virgin Lapua ,I will try neck sized with different neck tension with shoulder pushed back .001" and see what happens.

I've never worried about brass as everybody makes brass for each other. My 700 does okay with 168 amax. It really likes 168 MKs and Bergers. They shoot the same, so I use the MKs for less money. Weird to me is that my rifle loves 110 amax bullets. Wacky.

I'll trade ya some H4895 for some .45 plinkers ;) I don't have dies or powder for .45 yet and haven't had time to reload the thousands of 223 and 300blk I've intended on loading, so who knows when I'd be able to get around to loading .45 either!

I've quit using the 168gr bullets and bought 175's.. Gordy Gritters claims that 168's have a tendency to tumble at long range when they go subsonic. I rarely get a chance to shoot long range myself . I paid to attend a two day class he put on so I guess he knows a lot more about it than I do since he builds record holding rifles.
