I was messing around in the garage and found grandpa’s old fishing rod and reel

Not sure about the rod but that reel looks like it would clean up just fine with a little love. I’d suggest using a heavier line unless you’re skilled with old bait casting reels. Backlash can make quite a mess.

I can remember fishing with dad when I was 6 years old in a pond we always fished I was using the same zebco 33 I always used and dad would get halfway around the pond and have to come back because it was screwed up right before we left it screwed up again dad said give me that rod and broke it over his knee and threw it in the pond I was devastated and think I cried all the way home a couple days later he came home from work and handed me a new rod with a ambassador 5000 on it he said now get out in the back yard and learn how to fish with it I learned 2 things that week how to cast a baitcast and how to dig out a backlash gun times

I had a lot of spinning reels.
I did end up with a #9 penn I loved it.

I refurbish 202s, 404s, and 33s for my family’s use have given several away They make great kids reels and with metal gears are hard to destroy
