Sounds good on the surface until you realize that the civil unrest is, in large part, a protest against the austerity measures being put in place to try to keep Greece afloat. In other words, people are pissed that the lush social programs they grew used to are being turned off.

The Greeks aren't protesting against a wasteful government and out of control spending...they are protesting the end of the gravy train.

Interestingly, I'm hearing good things about Greece's economy these days. American investors are starting to look at Greece as a turnaround scenerio. If they can just stick with the program for a little longer, they can pull this thing off.

Wow, one could only hope to hear the same thing here.. No I am not suggesting anything. Just saying that if folks thought the government was so corrupt to do attempt something, that the military would not be beholding to that same corrupt government.

It's public sector job and pension cuts causing this round of protest, they've already cut their social programs it's the gov. being cut now. Guess that's why the gov. can't trust their police.

"Greece's Parliament late on Tuesday approved new cuts in public sector pensions and government spending required to secure a second package of international rescue loans".

Lived on Crete in the early '90's and they were on the Drachma and went back in '05 they were on the Euro then, friends said their ecomomy. Started going down hill fast after the switch. Socialist programs are great until the money runs out and the bills are due.

The US was a great place to invest around the time of the great depression - if you had money, it was like walking through the clearance aisle at Dillards' winter department while people were freezing to death.

It's really too bad that Greece only has the Military to rely on to keep those pesky citizens in check. If only the Greek government had the foresight to put together a department that guarded the homeland... almost keeping themselves secure... against citizen up-rises...

with ton's of armament/ammo...
and drones...
and warrant-less wiretaps...
and the ability to imprison citizens for no reason...
and a document that guided them on the proper circumstances to kill citizens...
and laws that disarm the citizens...
and an agency that monitors and regulates those citizens' freedom of speech...

Well, they might just have had less problems with those pesky citizens.
