This is of monumental proportions, can any human fathom 1,000 kids victimized by someone they trusted?

Absolutely^^^

The damage caused to the next generation being raised by someone with that kind of unresolved trauma could be unimaginable too. If they found 1,000 one can only imagine what the real number is.

And this is only one state.Like I said earlier watch the movie Spotlight and you will get some idea of the number of people that have came foreward and admitted getting raped by a priest when younger all over the world. There are probably several times more that haven't admitted it.That would definitely mess you up for the rest of your life.

At least 271 clergy accused of child sex abuse in Boston Archdiocese ..This is was in the Boston Globe after the movie Spotlight. 271 priests for just one city seems like a lot child molesting.

Yes
There is a history of abuse but there may well be exaggeration. Judgement needs ot be reserved untill the full facts come out.

That (sorta) explains why the Clergy diddles. It doesn't explain why the church organization, as a whole, covers it up and prevents the abusers from coming to light.

This. The Catholic Church has paid out somewhere between $1-3 BILLION (depending on source) dollars in sexual assault settlements.

Many of those settlements included utterly immoral non-disclosure clauses. In some cases, the dioceses filed for bankruptcy to limit their financial obligations.

Now this is just my opinion. When cases such as these are proven, and a significant contributing factor is the pervasive and widespread criminal activity, coupled with the complicit coverup of the hierarchal organization? Then the community should move to condemn the edifices the abusers used in the commission of their heinous crimes, and raze them to the ground. Obviously the Catholic Church didn't take the sex abuse scandals within their ranks of the 80's, 90's and 00's seriously. Take a few of these:

And turn them into this:

Then perhaps they'll get the message.

The real question is why the Catholic Church didn't conduct a full review of every diocese, for possible time bombs after the Boston scandal? Or did they and find the results too horrific to address? You can't convince me that something of this scope and magnitude was unknown for all these years. :(
