No need for a kit unless you just want one. My cleaning equipment has basically boiled down to some bore snakes, patches, and a bottle of CLP. I wipe down my guns but I really don't try to make them spotless.

I see a kit as a starting point. If you are just starting out get a basic one and see what you actually use from it.
Otherwise look for a kit that is close to what you want and them supplement it.

My kit is far beyond anything you could buy off the shelf. But it works for every firearm I own and also doubles as a tool kit.

When you buy a kit you oftentimes get things you don't need...like brushes for calibers you don't have. It's a lot more efficient to buy separate components in my opinion.
If you have brushes for calibers you don't have it sounds like you need to buy some guns in that caliber to use the brushes.
