Kits usually have 3 piece aluminum rods
That’s nice for travel but a one piece rod is better
They also have cheep plastic eyes and jags in one or two common calibers. Not much use if you shoot a 45/70
Jags and brushes are needed in the calibers you shoot

Oil and solvents should be stored upright to avoid leaks and the best choice depends on what you shoot. Kits tend to have one sample size bottle of whatever they are promoting. Good luck finding anything that fits the pocket in 10 years.

Patches, rags, special tools, brushes, picks, etc are also needed

Have yet to see a kit that had everything or room for extras

That said, I still have some cleaning kits to carry when traveling. They are convenient.

Rifles, non chlorinated break cleaner after shooting. Get home Hoppes with a snake couple times. Ballistol spray the gun, wipe and a patch down the barrel. It’s work great for about 50 years. Revolvers same thing, but spend some time on the cylinder and barrel. Glock same as Rifles. But I use a dab of Snowmobile grease that has a negative temps to 50 below and 4k heat. I use it also on the innards of the AR when I clean the firing system. But I will admit they don’t get cleaned until they are as nasty as a $14 whore. My EDC is lickable at all times.
