I finished reading Liberty Defined this last week and I previously hadn't done much research into campus carrying and gun free zones. Ron Paul, in his new book, argues for a strict interpretation of the 2nd amendment (as he should), but also has a good argument against gun free zones.

The right of an individual to defend themselves doesn't stop at the property line of a public campus and the fear mongering of proponents of gun free zones doesn't make any sense. He points to gun violence happening in gun free zones and asks the question, "why isn't there more violence at gun shows?"

I encourage any liberty minded person to check out the book.

Why does the man need backing? He just needs to start talking trash on the Don and he would get airtime. I know alot of people who would vote for him if he ran, not just pro gun people either.

Mr. Paul has, I believe, plenty of supporters.

Unfortunately the most vocal among them - who are also a minority among his supporters - come across as nut jobs and get the most media attention. These nut jobs put the worse possible face on Mr. Paul's libertarian stand.

Ron Paul would make a good Pres.

But he'll never be that. He is not electable. His nut job supporters not withstanding there are just too many sheep with their hands out stretched waiting for another government handout. Then there are those wanting the government to protect them and keep them safe from everything they might encounter in their daily lives that would either reduce the size of their wallets, shorten their lives, break a bone or otherwise interfere with their watching of football, drinking beer or getting laid on a regular basis.

Sucks but that's the current reality we live in.

Everytime I go to the gun range or shooting event I experience absolutely zero gun violence from fellow shooters. Go figure...

While I fundamentally agree with Ron Paul's position on this, I would encourage you to be more aware of gun violence at the gun range.

A number of suicides have occurred at Oklahoma gun ranges and suicidal folks are only a trigger pull away from being homicidal.

In addition in some parts of the country (the Platt/Matix/FBI being the most famous) criminals have murdered shooting enthusiasts for their guns at the range.

You are no less likely to be a victim at a gun range than anywhere else and if you are targeted, the nature of the location indicates that you will also be murdered, not just relieved of your property.

Just some thoughts from experience...........

Wow I'm glad I'm not the only one here, I am always very suspicious of anyone at the range, I always have a loaded firearm when going down range with other people that I don't know. Firearms and strange people I don't trust. Maybe I'm a little paranoid.
