Regarding Kimber:
I bought my first 1911 several years back. I'd owned Glocks, a Browning Hi Power, several Ruger wheelguns, even a Beretta. But I wanted a 1911 in 45ACP.
The older gent behind the counter saw me looking at the current Kimber model, which was on sale, selling for just under a C-note more than the Ruger next to it. He said, "Kimber is not what it used to be. Ruger is what it's always been."
I bought the Ruger SR1911 and I've been thrilled with it ever since - it's my EDC. I'm not sure that makes Kimber better or worse, it's just a story.
