What is wrong?

Niece was bragging to me she was going to earn more money a year than I do straight out of college due to her medical degree. Bachelors. Six years “full time” for a four year degree. College told her she would earn lots of money.

She only applies for six figure salaries and gripes she has no interviews. She has zero job experience. She did not summer intern but did do volunteer work. She cannot pass her certification test. She has a meltdown if you suggest she try an entry level position.

I have 42 years of experience and higher education and six certifications and one license. But I am an idiot. I started as an E-1.

So basically she wants to be middle income straight out of school. We hired someone recently straight from school with a masters and they were hired in around the 80k range. I had to laugh little at the simply because I know this young person who probably has huge amounts of student debt no never mind they're going to be saddled with a mortgage payment which will make that money disappear like fart in the wind.


They could have easily earned the same kind of money or more in a couple of years working had they stopped with BS degree. As it stands I know they won't see more money from this company at all for quite some time till they prove they're worth it .

Not sure what the point of changing it is when the market has already far surpassed it.
Also not sure what the concern about prices would be since you're already paying almost twice the minimum wage to your fast-casual line cooks.

I couldn't find a $7.25/hr job if I wanted one. Drive thru worker makes $12/hr already.

I worked for best buy for 8 years. From 2016-2024. After covid, they raised the minimum pay across the company to $18. Not saying thats the sole contributor to the wave after wave of layoffs i survived till i finally lost my job in march, but im SURE that didnt help. But then again, i think theyre digging themself a hole they either dont want, or wont recover from. But what do i know? Im just a guy with an opinion lol.
