I use the 55 grain Nosler ballistic tips in one of my .243 WSSM’s for deer and varmint.
Never had to track anything over a few yards.

Opinions and experiences differ, but I won’t use a ballistic tip under 150 grains on deer. 
165’s in my 30-06 and 55’s in my 243, they work well for me.
I’ve used the 165s over IMR 4064 with great success on a few muleys back in Oregon some years back. I have an old ruger that loves them.
Thanks for all the input fellas, sounds like these should work well for deer. I have a few more loaded up to test at 300 yards to make sure they hold up.
My Ruger#1 .243 shooting 55gr NBT over Varget made 3965fps consistantly and would vaporize a raccoon at 300yds
I’ve chronographed my load at 4150 +\- a few fps. It’s pretty destructive on anything it hits.
Always said, speed kills.
Have used them for deer in 3006, .243 and .270 Great results Only one went completely through The rest were found mushroomed near the hide on the far side All Kansas deer and 1 Wyoming antelope Great bullets
I've killed dozens of deer with 95gr in 6mm Rem, 140gr 150gr 160gr in .280 and .280AI and 7mm-08, 150gr 165gr in 300win mag, 125gr 
and 180gr in 30-378 Weatherby Mag, 225gr in 350 Rem and have had zero issues no matter the distances.
