Help identifying an old Pistol (WWII?)

Hi guys,
I'm looking for some help identifying a pistol.
It belongs to a friend and he's trying to research it.

He found it in a box from his dad’s old stuff. He assumes it is a WWII souvenir, since there were some other German Nazi items in the box.

Definately french. St. Etienne marking on frame is the dead giveaway.

Yes it is french. gun collector friend of mine has one. Like 8mm or something odd like that. He actually had a book, cartidges of the world maybe?, that gave info on the round and what casing could be used to create ammo for it. he made a few rounds and shot it. It was fairly low power for its day...but hey its french!
